The budgetMap application acts as a gateway between the Eagle Eye Tracker unit, that may be installed inside a vehicle, and mapping software that runs on your PC.
Your mapping software may be any route-planner package, such as for example "Windows Auto Route" or "Route 66".
The budgetMap software contacts the tracker unit via a normal modem or a GSM modem. It then send commands to the tracker unit to request its current position.
When the position information (called NMEA/RMC data) is received by the budgetMap software, it is stripped from some extra bytes, and the resulting string is sent to a virtual serial port.
In your mapping software package, you can select the serial port to which a GPS is connected. If you select the virtual serial port that budgetMap created, the data of your tracker unit is received by the mapping software package and diplayed on the screen. Figure 1 shows how this works.
